In practice, an actual diesel engine is often used as a soot generator. However, the results this generates are expensive, unstable and prone to downtimes.

If the measurement results are generated using the conventional method with a combustion engine, the following may also be the case:

  • Size and concentration of the soot particles only controllable to a limited extent

  • Consumption of fossil fuel
