Pressure and temperature

The temperature has a strong influence on pressure as a measurement parameter:

  • Molecules in gases move, and their speed increases as they are heated.
  • As a result, they impact walls at high speed – the pressure in the system increases.
  • The signals of electronic components too, behave differently at varying temperatures. For this reason, most pressure measuring instruments are temperature-compensated.

Tips for correct pressure measurement


Tip 1: Temperature compensation

In order to obtain precise measurement results in long-term measurements, choose a pressure measuring instrument with temperature compensation.

Tip 2: Temperature acclimatization

In cases of extreme temperature differences, carry out a temperature compensation and a temperature acclimatization (approx. 30 min).


Tip 3: Correct connection

Always allocate positive and negative pressures to the right connections. Otherwise false measurements or none at all can be the result.

Tip 4: Avoid overload

Ensure that the maximum pressure of the sensor is not exceeded, as it can otherwise be damaged.

Procedure for a correct pressure measurement

  • Carry out temperature acclimatization (ideally with the instrument running).
  • Zero the (depressurized) measuring instrument.
  • Connect the measuring instrument to the pressure system.
  • Observer correct connection: Higher pressure (positive pressure) to "+" Lower pressure (negative pressure) to "-"
  • Measure.
