Thermohygrometers: Measure humidity in industry, trade and living environments
A person's well-being and comfort depend to a large extent on the prevailing humidity. A thermohygrometer is used to determine the humidity, and it can measure temperature and humidity at the same time. It is important to know the humidity level in other environments too, because other parameters depend upon it in research and development, for example. Even in trade and industry, the humidity in a room or moisture level of materials and substances need to be known in many fields and measured using a thermohygrometer.
It is important that the thermohygrometer has the following features, among others:
- Robust housing
- Accurate acquisition of measurement data
- Measurement of humidity and temperature
- Easy-to-read and illuminated display
- Different measurement probes for different measuring situations

Thermohygrometers: A variety of measuring instruments from Testo
Not all thermohygrometers are the same, so Testo offers the appropriate humidity meter for every purpose. The measurements should take into account that moisture production in the room can vary and depends, among other things, on the exchange of air. The air in the living environment, for example, is less humid if ventilation is more frequent. An exchange with outside air is a key factor when it comes to the indoor climate. The absorption of moisture by the furnishings in the room and by the walls also varies. In an office, for example, much less moisture is absorbed by the furnishings and walls than in a living room with thick curtains, a fluffy carpet and real wood furniture. In the laboratory environment, it is therefore important to determine the humidity of the room and to consider its influence on experiments and experimental set-ups in order to obtain usable results.
Testo therefore has the appropriate thermohygrometer for every need:
- All-round measuring instruments for measuring the indoor climate, with determination of temperature included
- Data logger for humidity measurements
In addition, there are various probes that are designed as standard probes or for special applications, e.g. for measuring humidity at temperatures up to +180 °C. The Smart Probes are wireless radio probes that can be read and evaluated using a smartphone. The associated app displays the values graphically or as a table and calculates the dew point as well as the wet bulb temperature of the air.
Measuring humidity: Not possible without a measuring instrument
Lots of people certainly have an astonishing knack when it comes to room humidity, and can estimate whether the relative humidity is approx. 50% or more. But in order to work scientifically or in production, you need more than this subjective perception. Values need to be determined exactly, which is only possible with a thermohygrometer. The modern thermohygrometers from Testo therefore offer these key advantages:
- Use of the app with stored menus for each application
- Automatic calculation of various measurement parameters
- Use of a wireless humidity probe
- Some can be expanded with digital probes
Moisture in rooms and materials: Accurate measurement of this key parameter
Room humidity is an important factor that influences people's comfort and well-being. Ideally the relative humidity is around 50%, usually 30 to 65% are specified as limit values, whereby the latter is already perceived as being very humid. The moisture meter reliably indicates how high the current room humidity is. Sensitive sensors ensure accurate measurement, while the large display of the hygrometers makes the values easy to read from all directions. A thermometer built into the thermohygrometer indicates the measured room temperature, and both values make it possible to make statements about the indoor climate.
Hygrometers: Reliable calculation of material moisture
For many materials, it is imperative to know about their residual moisture. In the case of firewood, for example, you need to establish whether it is dry enough to be placed in the fireplace. Is the screed already dry enough that construction work on the new house can continue? And is the residual material moisture in a laboratory experiment low enough to continue the experiment? These and other questions can be answered reliably and, most notably, with extreme precision using a thermohygrometer. It uses the highly sensitive sensors for this, measuring the data and making it available on an easy-to-read display.
Supplement the thermohygrometer with the data logger
Sometimes measuring data with the thermohygrometer is just not enough. This needs to be collected constantly, and at the same time it is necessary to record it. If you are storing materials that are particularly sensitive to rising room humidity, monitoring this is extremely important. You can use the humidity data logger to record the data. The readings are clearly displayed and changes are immediately detectable. This complements the thermohygrometer in a useful way and makes all necessary data available.
