Barbecue thermometer from Testo

Barbecuing is now more than just burning a few sausages, neck steaks and the obligatory corn on the cob on a gas station grill. Fortunately. Because preparing high-quality food outside on an open fire is a very special experience. It is not without reason that books and magazines on this subject fill entire shelves. And you can easily spend as much on a top-of-the-range branded barbecue as on a small car.

However, it should never be forgotten that even with the best piece of meat on the most exclusive grill, the ultimate aim is to cook food safely, precisely and at the right temperature.

And for this you sometimes need the support of a barbecue thermometer or meat thermometer. Especially if you want to grill something other than sausages, neck steak and corn on the cob.

Temperature measurement with a penetration thermometer

One method has proven to be particularly effective for measuring the temperature of food. Puncture measurement, such as with a barbecue thermometer or roasting thermometer, combines safety on the barbecue with ease of use and is therefore used wherever professionals work with food and fast and reliable results are required. In contrast to surface thermometers, which only measure the temperature on the surface of an object, penetration thermometers go deeper. In the truest sense of the word.

The journey to the center of the steak

Insertion thermometers such as barbecue thermometers or roasting thermometers measure exactly where it matters: in the middle of the food. Because this is where the temperatures are that provide information about how well the food is cooked on the grill. And only by measuring the so-called core temperature with a barbecue thermometer can it be ruled out that the eagerly awaited fillet is tough and cooked through instead of tender and pink.

The measurement itself is very simple: switch on the thermometer, insert it, wait until the measured value has stabilized and you're done. The optimum core temperatures for different types of meat and degrees of doneness can be obtained either from your trusted butcher or from the internet. For a steak that is to be cooked medium rare, the core temperature is 55 °C, for example. It is best to take out the barbecue thermometer and measure it.

More food thermometers from Testo

In addition to the tried and tested penetration thermometers for measuring the core temperature of various foods, such as grilled food, Testo also offers many other measuring instruments for measuring the temperature of food. This is because it is not always necessary to pierce the object to be measured. In many applications - such as quick checks on incoming goods - measuring the surface temperature is sufficient. Two methods are available for these applications: Contact measurement and infrared measurement. Both methods and the associated measurement technology are described below.
